What are CFDs?

Contracts for difference (CFDs) are derivative financial instruments that let you trade an asset's price change without owning the asset itself. You can trade stock indices, currency pairs, commodities, or shares with leverage, profiting both from upward (long) and downward (short) moves.

CFDs are popular thanks to their accessibility (low minimum deposit), leverage (typically up to 1:30 for EU non-professional investors per ESMA), and the breadth of available assets. They are high-risk instruments though — between 74% and 89% of non-professional investors lose money trading CFDs.

How to read the chart

Japanese candlesticks show four values per interval: open, high, low, close. Green candles indicate a price rise in the interval, red candles a fall.

SMA (Simple Moving Average) computes the mean price over the last N candles — SMA(20) is the average of the most recent 20 candles. Price above SMA means an uptrend, below means a downtrend. SMA(20)/SMA(50) crossovers are a classic trend-change signal.

The volume histogram shows the number of contracts traded per interval. High volume confirms price moves — a breakout on high volume has more force than one without.
