What is an exchange rate and how is it formed
An exchange rate is the price at which one currency can be exchanged for another. On the interbank capital market (forex), rates are formed by real-time supply and demand — trade flows, monetary policy decisions (central bank interest rates), comparative inflation and investment sentiment. For the Moldovan leu (MDL), the National Bank of Moldova publishes a daily official rate reflecting the average of transactions on the local market.
