Money Week Has Begun! The NBM Opens Its Doors to Children and Young People

The National Bank of Moldova (NBM) has prepared a rich program of activities for 16–22 March 2026 under the umbrella of Global Money Week (Global Money Week), designed to bring the general public closer to economic topics and to help build healthy financial habits.

The program includes daily hands-on workshops and training sessions where young people can learn directly from the National Bank's specialists what the mission of a central bank is, how monetary policy decisions are made, what digital transformation means in the financial sector, and what the essential principles are for carrying out online transactions safely.

The series of events will open with a public lecture by NBM Governor Anca Dragu, who will discuss with young people the topic of responsibility in managing personal money and the choices that can shape their professional and personal development.

“Financial education means knowing what you can do with every leu you earn: set money aside, invest, know the right moment and the correct way to take out a loan without endangering your financial balance. From fundamental concepts such as interest and borrowing to sophisticated investment strategies, financial knowledge can bring concrete change to everyone's life. A young generation with a solid financial culture not only manages its own resources more efficiently but also actively participates in the progress of the national economy,” says Governor Anca Dragu.

The agenda of the International Financial Education Week also includes a thematic meeting dedicated to the “FinanciarELE – women's leadership community” initiative, a project launched by the NBM in March 2025 whose goal is to motivate and support the emergence of a new cohort of women capable of taking leadership roles in the country's economy and finance.

During Global Money Week, participants will also be able to take guided tours of the NBM's exhibition hall, where they will briefly walk through the history of the national currency, view the collection of commemorative and jubilee pieces made of gold and silver, and discover how to identify the authenticity features of the Moldovan leu.

Access to the activities is based on prior registration. The financial education workshops are open to young people aged 16 and over.

The exhibition tours will be scheduled on weekends — Saturday and Sunday — addressed primarily to children and young people from rural areas, but also to anyone wishing to learn the story of the national currency, see in real life what a gold bullion bar looks like, or gain valuable insights into the world of money.

Throughout the events organized by the NBM during the International Financial Education Week, minor participants must be accompanied by an adult responsible for their safety during the visit or workshop.

Entry is on the hour between 10:00 and 15:00, upon presentation of a valid identity document. Participation requests for groups of at least ten people can be submitted until 11 March 2026 at edufin@bnm.md. Smaller groups can attend without a prior reservation.

Global Money Week is an international campaign with a 14-year history joined by 176 countries, including the Republic of Moldova. Its purpose is to promote awareness of the value of financial education and to strengthen the behaviors and attitudes needed to handle everyday financial decisions.
