Chapter 01

Introducing the company

AvaTrade is a brokerage founded in 2006 in Dublin, Ireland, where its headquarters remain today. The group it belongs to operates authorised entities in nine jurisdictions, from Ireland and Cyprus to Australia, Japan and the British Virgin Islands. The company offers two directions: trading through contracts for difference (CFDs — over-the-counter instruments, meaning negotiated directly between the client and the company, through which you trade the price difference without owning the asset) and FX options, in a separate platform.

What makes it easy to recognise among our partners is the simplicity of its structure: a single trading account type, with no commercial tiers, and a fixed spread instead of a variable one. You choose the platform and, if needed, the version with no overnight interest. Everything else is the same for everyone.

How the company earns

Market maker model (with a dealing desk)

Market maker model (with a dealing desk): the company is your counterparty in the trade and sets the quoted price itself, based on the external reference sources it uses. That is where its main revenue comes from — the spread built into the quote, not a separate commission: the company states explicitly that it is remunerated through the difference between the buy and sell price, and that this is not a fee added on top of the quote. To this are added interest on positions held overnight, currency conversion on operations in a currency other than the account's, the inactivity fee and the annual administration fee. The model is legal and supervised by the authorities that issued the licences; it is described in the order execution policy and in the trading conditions — the links are in Regulation and safety of funds ›. What each execution model means, we explained in the guide What a broker is ›.

What sets it apart

A fixed spread, not a variable one. At most companies the spread widens on news and during low-liquidity hours, and the cost of a trade cannot be calculated in advance. Here the quote starts from an announced value and stays there under normal market conditions — the company reserves the right to change it only in extreme volatility. It matters if you trade on news or if you want to know the cost before you open the position, not after.

A single account type. There are no Standard, Raw, Pro accounts with deposit thresholds and different conditions. All clients get the same conditions, no matter how much they deposit. It matters if you start with a small amount and don't want to find out later that you were on the tier with the worst conditions.

Banking services and additional services

These are not protections for your money, but commercial services, with their own rules and their own risk.

AvaProtect

A proprietary tool of the company: for a premium paid at opening, you cover a specific position for a chosen period. If the loss materialises before expiry, including via stop-loss, the company credits it to your account; if at expiry the loss is only on paper, it credits it too and the position stays open. It works only in the proprietary app — not in MetaTrader. It is not a free safety net: the premium is calculated from expected volatility, is deducted from free cash, is non-refundable and does not cover overnight interest or other commissions.

Why the charts look different

The company's platforms run on GMT+0, London time, while most brokers use GMT+2 or GMT+3. What that means for you: the daily candle opens and closes at a different hour, so daily levels and candlestick patterns don't match those at another broker. It's not an error and not an advantage in itself — but if you work on four-hour timeframes or higher, you need to know this before your first trades, not after.

Analysis included

Trading Central signals and reports, integrated into the proprietary platforms. They are materials from an external provider, not personalised recommendations.

Education

The company has its own academy, in English. In Romanian and Russian — our materials and courses ›, built for the local market.

Copy trading and social trading

Through AvaSocial and DupliTrade you can follow or automatically copy other traders' trades. The copied trader's past results don't guarantee future ones, and the risk stays with your account. How to choose an account to copy — we cover at the copy trading consultation ›.

Regulation and the safety of your money

The AvaTrade group operates authorised entities in nine jurisdictions. Clients from the Republic of Moldova register on the group's global licences — the ones serving clients outside the European Union. How client money is protected

The protections below depend on the rules of each entity and we explain them at length, for all our partners, in the guides of the Brokers section; here — briefly, for orientation:

  • Segregation of fundsSegregation of funds — client money is held in bank accounts separate from the company's money, opened as "client asset accounts". The company cannot use it for its own expenses, and the bank holding it cannot set it off against the company's debts. At the European Union entity, the rules require daily reconciliation of the amounts, and the company states it works only with banks rated at least B by Moody's or S&P; the published list of institutions where this entity's client money may be held includes National Westminster Bank and J.P. Morgan SE. The money is kept in pooled accounts, shared across several clients — the company explains in its own document the risk this creates if the bank becomes insolvent. What the contract you sign says — something people rarely read, but which matters: the client agreement in force since 3 February 2026, the one presented to you at registration, provides the company with a lien and a right of set-off over your funds, for any obligations you may have towards it, as well as the right to pledge or rehypothecate the assets held as margin. These are standard clauses in over-the-counter brokerage agreements, but they are not neutral. We go through them together before you sign.

  • Negative balance protectionNegative balance protection — the account cannot go below zero. In the European Union and in Australia it is imposed by regulation, for non-professional investors. On the group's global licences, where clients from the Republic of Moldova register, it is provided for in the client agreement: if the amount in the trading account drops below zero, the company cancels the negative balance. Watch out, though, for an exception written into the same agreement: when trading futures contracts you can lose more than you deposited and remain liable for the difference. Since futures are not part of the offering we discuss here, the exception does not affect you — but it is worth knowing.

  • Compensation schemeCompensation scheme — the protection for the extreme case: if a company went bankrupt or could no longer honour its obligations to clients, a compensation fund returns the money, up to a cap. It does not cover trading losses — only the company's failure. Clients of the Irish entity are covered by the Irish investor compensation scheme: 90% of the net loss, at most 20,000 EUR per client, and only if they are non-professional investors. On the group's global licences, on which clients from the Republic of Moldova register, no such fund exists — which is why the reputation and regulation of the whole group matter so much. What a compensation fund is, we explained in the Glossary ›. We have explained what a compensation fund is in the Glossary.

Chapter 03

CFD trading

The company's main direction: contracts for difference on currencies, indices, commodities, stocks, exchange-traded funds, bonds and cryptocurrencies. You don't buy the real assets — you trade the price difference, with leverage and in both directions of the market. The cost is a single number, the spread, and it is fixed.

The tables below show the main conditions. The button adds the detailed rows — technical specifications, useful if you already know what you are looking for.

General conditions

Asset classescurrencies, indices, commodities, stocks, exchange-traded funds, bonds and cryptocurrencies — all as CFDs
Number of assetsover a thousand, across all classes · an order of magnitude, not an exact figure — it changes monthly
Order executionthe company is your counterparty and quotes the price based on external reference sources, which it states it reviews continuously. The spread is fixed: it starts from the announced value and stays there under normal market conditions, with the company reserving the right to change it in extreme volatility. The execution policy is among the documents in Regulation and safety of funds ›
Order typesFULL SPEC SHEETmarket, limit, stop-loss, take-profit. No guaranteed execution: when triggered, the order fills at the next available price. A limit order fills at the requested price, not at a better one
Platform time zoneFULL SPEC SHEETGMT+0 — London time, atypical in the industry, where the standard is GMT+2 or GMT+3. The practical consequence: the daily candle closes differently from what you're used to, and the charts look different from other platforms. The full explanation is in Platforms and tools ›
Maximum leverageon the group's global licences: 1:400 on major currencies · 1:200 on gold and major indices · 1:100 on oil, minor indices and options · 1:50 on other commodities · 1:25 on cryptocurrencies · 1:10 on stocks. On the European Union entity the caps are much lower: 1:30 on major currencies, 1:20 on gold and indices, 1:5 on stocks, 1:2 on cryptocurrencies. Leverage amplifies both the gain and the loss: Risk management ›
Margin call / stop-outFULL SPEC SHEETstop-out at 50% of the required margin, both in MetaTrader and in AvaOptions
Swapapplied daily, per instrument, and debited or credited the following day. The rates are not fixed — they are shown in each instrument's specifications, in the platform
Inactivity fee50 USD, 50 EUR or 50 GBP, depending on the account currency, after 3 consecutive months without activity, and for each subsequent period of inactivity — worth knowing, although, if you come to trade rather than just park money, you will never run into it: a single trade before the deadline cancels it
Demo accountavailable on all platforms, with virtual money. The duration and the virtual balance are confirmed at opening — public sources disagree with each other, and we don't publish a figure we haven't verified
Account without overnight interest (Islamic)on request, after account verification. The agreement sets a limit: positions cannot be held open for more than 5 days, and abusing this option leads to the account being returned to the standard regime, with the corresponding adjustments
Client categorisationthe company states in its general terms that it treats all clients as retail (non-professional) investors, regardless of the categorisation in their country of residence — that is, the tier with the most protections
Minimum stop/limit distanceFULL SPEC SHEETset per instrument and shown in the instrument specifications, directly in the platform
Currency conversionfor operations in a currency other than your account currency, the agreement gives the company the right to convert at a rate it sets itself, starting from money-market rates at that moment. An account opened directly in dollars or euros removes the conversion for most clients from Moldova
Interest on idle balancenot paid — unused money in the account earns no interest
Deposits and withdrawalsthe company charges no standard fees. The agreement does, however, reserve its right to pass on the bank charges of a transfer, and your bank may charge its own — details in Deposits and withdrawals ›
Opposite positions on the same instrumentFULL SPEC SHEETcan be held simultaneously (hedging) in MetaTrader 4; in MetaTrader 5, depending on the account type chosen at opening, positions can also be offset automatically (netting)
Robots and algorithmsFULL SPEC SHEETyes — in MetaTrader 4 and 5, via Expert Advisors. In addition, no-code automation through Capitalise.ai
Prohibited trading practicesFULL SPEC SHEETthe agreement nominally prohibits latency arbitrage and trades based on erroneous quotes, and the company reserves the right to cancel them retroactively, together with the resulting profit. If the same volume is split across several accounts, or several clients use the same robot or copying service, the trades may be treated as one, with the spread recalculated on the cumulative volume. Connecting via programming interfaces or MetaQuotes bridges requires written consent
Changes to the termsFULL SPEC SHEETany new or increased fee is announced on the website at least 7 days before it takes effect; the same rule applies to changes to the agreement
Statements and disputesFULL SPEC SHEETexecution reports and account statements are deemed accepted if you do not dispute them within 2 business days of their publication in the account
TaxesFULL SPEC SHEETthe company does not withhold or remit taxes on your behalf; declaring and paying them remains your responsibility. How it is calculated in the Republic of Moldova — in Taxation of stock market gains ›
Closing the accountFULL SPEC SHEETyou can request it at any time, with three days' written notice, provided you have no open positions and no debts to the company
Annual administration fee100 USD, 100 EUR or 100 GBP, depending on the account currency, after 12 consecutive months of inactivity. It is added to the fee above, not a replacement for it
Account currenciesUS dollar, euro, pound sterling or Japanese yen. The pound is available only to clients from the United Kingdom, and the Australian dollar only to those from Australia — for Moldova that leaves the dollar and the euro

The company has a single trading account type — from the minimum deposit to the platforms, everything about it is in the table above. That is why you won't find here the comparative account matrix you see with other partners: there is nothing to compare. The demo account opens without documents and without a deposit, on the same market conditions. The version with no overnight interest does not appear automatically — it is requested after account verification.

Chapter 04

Options trading

European vanilla FX options, in a separate platform, AvaOptions. An option gives you the right, not the obligation, to buy or to sell at a set price, by a set date. The buyer's risk is limited to the premium paid; the seller's is not. The contracts are not exchange-listed — they are over-the-counter, meaning concluded directly with the company, just like CFDs. At expiry they close automatically at intrinsic value, with no delivery of the asset.

General conditions

Contul AvaOptionsOptions trading

A difference the cost depends on. On CFDs the spread is fixed. On options, the spread is variable and has no guaranteed maximum — it widens when volatility rises. The company states explicitly in its general terms that it does not guarantee a maximum or minimum spread on options.

Chapter 05

Futures trading

Real futures contracts, traded on exchanges, not contracts for difference built on their price. The difference is not one of nuance: here your order reaches the exchange, the price is the market's, and the company is not your counterparty — it acts as a commission agent, in its own name but on your account and at your risk, and execution and settlement go through an intermediary specialised in commodities and futures. Among our partners, few offer this.

The tables below show the main conditions. The button adds the detailed rows — technical specifications, useful if you already know what you are looking for.

General conditions

Order executiondirect market access
Margin call / stop-outFULL SPEC SHEETat 90% of the required margin, much earlier than on the other directions. Liquidation happens without notice, at the market price, and the company may charge a fee for it
Margin and leveragemargin for positions held within the day is lower than for positions held overnight, which means higher leverage — and risk to match. If you want to hold a position overnight, the overnight margin must be covered at least 15 minutes before the exchange closes
What happens to your marginthe part of your money covering the required margin passes into the company's ownership and is posted as collateral with the liquidity provider; it is no longer registered in your name. Only the amount deposited above the required margin remains treated as client money. It is a fundamental difference from the other directions and worth reading twice
Where the money sitsin omnibus accounts held with the futures intermediary, together with other clients' money, with no insurance in case of its insolvency
Expiry datesthere is no physical or cash settlement: positions still open two business days before the first notice day or the last trading day, whichever comes first, are closed by the company, possibly with a fee
Contul de futuresFutures trading
Available asset classes
indices, currencies, energy, metals, cryptocurrencies, agricultural products
Platforms
CQG, TradingView, MetaTrader 5, Deepcharts
Minimum volume

Negative balance protection does not apply here. On CFDs and options, the agreement says the negative balance is cancelled. On futures, the same agreement says the opposite: you can lose more than you deposited and remain liable for the difference. It is the only place in this partner's offering where your risk does not stop at the amount in your account.

Copy trading and social trading

You can automatically copy another trader's trades or, conversely, publish your own strategy. The past results of the copied trader do not guarantee future results, and the risk remains entirely that of your account: the losses occur in your account, not in theirs.

What it lacks: What it lacks: TradingView integration for CFDs. For futures it exists; for CFDs, it doesn't. If you build your analysis there and trade CFDs, you'll have to execute in another window — we call things by their name.

Chapter 07

Deposits and withdrawals

The rules follow the standards of the field: money comes in and goes out only through cards or bank accounts opened in your name (an anti-money-laundering rule). Below you have the conditions for transactions with bank accounts from Moldova.

MethodDeposit / durationWithdrawal / durationKeep in mind
Visa / Mastercard card0% · instant; the first deposit with a new card can take up to one business day due to security checks0% · processed in 24–48 hours, then your bank's timelinesthe first part of a withdrawal goes back to the deposit card, until the deposited amount is fully covered
Bank transfer0% · up to 7 business days, depending on your bank0% · up to 10 business days until the money reaches your accountsend the company the transfer confirmation so it can track the payment
E-wallets (Skrill, Neteller, WebMoney)0% · under 24 hours0% · processed in 24–48 hoursthe company offers them to clients outside the European Union and Australia — Moldova included

How a withdrawal is made

Withdrawal requests are processed, after the account has been verified, usually much faster than the official deadlines indicate. The withdrawal first returns to the method used for the deposit; the profit can go out to a bank account or another method, but strictly in your name.

These are not obstacles — they are exactly the rules that make the difference between a financial institution and a scam.

Note for Moldova — read before you deposit

Some banks in the country may delay or even reject transfers to brokerage companies. The reason is not you: the stock market field is only now coming under local regulation (Law 177/2025), and the banks, faced with the wave of frauds in which criminals pose as “brokers” or “investment firms”, still do not have clear procedures for telling a regulated brokerage company apart from a scam. In developed countries, stock market investing is integrated directly into online banking; here, the banks are only just learning that a regulated brokerage company is, like them, a supervised financial institution. The good news: if you understand what you are doing and can explain to the bank where the money is going — your own trading account, with a regulated company, verifiable in public registers — the situation is usually cleared up quickly. You have the same support for withdrawals: if the bank asks about the origin of the money, trading and stock market investing are legal activities, and our partner companies issue official activity reports (account statements) precisely for this kind of transparency.

If you run into a refusal, contact us.

Your bank may charge its own conversion or currency transfer fee — check its tariffs before your first deposit, and if you want, we will work out the cheapest route together, free of charge.

The complaints procedure

First you write to the support team. If the issue isn't resolved there, you fill in the complaint form from the document centre and send it to the dedicated complaints address. From that moment the deadlines written in the agreement start running: the company informs you in writing about the status of the investigation at least once every 20 business days and tries to conclude it within 40 business days with a final response; if it cannot do so within that period, it must tell you when it estimates it will. If the final response does not satisfy you, you can turn to the authority supervising the licence your account was opened under, within six years of that response. But before anything else, tell us what happened and we will try to help: most of the time the trouble comes from certain services and procedures not being known well enough. And if a complaint really is necessary, we help you word it properly — it's part of our support.

Chapter 09

How to open the account, step by step

Six steps, in their natural order — and if you get stuck somewhere, ask us for help, it is free.

  1. Open the registration form

Through the button on this page, so that the registration is linked to us and you receive the support and the conditions of Trading.md clients.

  2. Fill in your personal details

Name, country, e-mail, phone — exactly as they appear in your identity document. One different letter delays the verification.

  3. Answer the experience questionnaire

Questions about income, savings and your experience with leveraged instruments. Answer honestly: the questionnaire establishes what can be offered to you.

  4. Upload the documents

The identity document and the proof of address, in the Client Cabinet. Clear photographs, the corners visible, the document within its validity period.

  5. Create the trading account

You choose the platform, the account type, the currency and the leverage. You can change them later by opening a new account — you are not locked into your first choice.

  6. Fund the account and get started

You deposit through one of the accepted methods, in your name. Our recommendation: start on a demo, in parallel, until you understand the platform.

Open a real account

Account verification

In principle, all brokers ask for the same thing: that you prove who you are and where you live. The details differ — which documents they accept, from which institutions, in what format and how long it takes.

Which documents and how many

Two, as a rule: one that confirms your identity and one that confirms your address. They must be within their validity period and legible in full.

Who issues the accepted document

Not every piece of paper with your address on it is accepted. The accepted issuing institutions differ from one company to another, and for Moldova not all the variants work the same way.

Selfie, video or just an upload

At some companies it is enough to upload the files. At others a photograph with the document in your hand or a short video verification is needed.

How long it takes and what a refusal means

From a few minutes to a few weeks, depending on how clear the documents are. A refusal does not close the door: it usually means that additional or clearer documents are required.

You do not have to remember all of this. We have been working with each partner for years and we know their requirements well, so we help you prepare the documents free of charge before you send them — including if you have already been refused once. Most of the time it gets resolved, and the final decision remains with the broker.

Documents and account types

Identity documentIdentity card or passport, valid, with all the corners visible in the photograph.
Proof of addressA recent document that contains your name and your address.
Additional checks for large amountsThe company may ask for documents about the origin of the funds — it is an anti-money-laundering requirement, not a suspicion directed at you.
Multiple accountsYou can have several trading accounts under the same client profile, with different platforms and currencies.
Company accountavailable: the company's documents, the beneficial owners' details and the signatory's documents are required, and the procedure takes longer than for individuals. If you want to trade through a company, let's first discuss what it involves: Investing through a corporate account ›

Chapter 10

Frequently asked questions

Chapter 11

Conclusion: who it suits

It suits

For someone who wants a predictable cost and a simple structure: fixed spread, a single account type, the same conditions regardless of the amount deposited. And for someone looking for FX options or real, exchange-traded futures contracts — few of our partners have both under the same profile. The risk-hedging tools in the proprietary app are a plus for beginners.

To weigh up

The inactivity fees are among the highest in the industry and start early — after three months. If you take long breaks, you need a plan. There is no real-ownership investing, and TradingView analysis cannot be executed directly on CFDs. And on the global entity there is no compensation fund.

Disclaimer

CFDs and options are complex instruments, with leverage, and involve a high risk of losing money rapidly.
